Welcoming Patients with CDCP Coverage

Oral health care should be accessible to everyone, and the Canadian Dental Care Plan makes that possible for millions of Canadians. Gleam Dental is proud to be a registered CDCP provider, and we welcome patients using their federal benefits at our Toronto west clinic.

Am I Eligible?

01

To qualify for the CDCP, you must meet all four criteria:

  • No access to private dental insurance
  • Canadian resident for tax purposes
  • Most recent tax return filed
  • Adjusted family net income under $90,000

All eligible Canadians can now apply regardless of age.

What Does CDCP Cover?

02

The CDCP covers essential oral health services including:

  • Dental exams and cleanings
  • X-rays
  • Root canals
  • Tooth extractions and fillings
  • Dentures and oral surgery

Some services require pre-authorization before treatment begins. Cosmetic treatments aren’t covered.

How Does Coverage Work?

03

Sun Life administers CDCP across Canada. Your coverage percentage depends on your adjusted family net income:

  • Under $70,000 – 100% of eligible fees covered
  • $70,000 to $79,999 – 60% covered
  • $80,000 to $89,999 – 40% covered

To keep your benefits active, file your taxes each year and renew through your
My Service Canada Account.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use CDCP for a dental emergency or cosmetic procedures?

Yes, CDCP coverage applies to emergency dental care including pain management, extractions, and other urgent treatments that fall within the plan’s covered services. Call our office at 437.292.4309 to confirm.

Cosmetic procedures such as teeth whitening, veneers, and dental implants are not covered under the CDCP. Our team is happy to discuss cosmetic treatment options and costs at your consultation.

Can I use CDCP and private insurance at the same time?

No. The CDCP is designed for Canadians who do not have access to private dental insurance. Patients with existing employer benefits or private coverage do not qualify for the plan. If your private insurance situation changes, you may become eligible to apply.

Can I combine CDCP with other government or provincial dental benefits at Gleam Dental?

In most cases, yes. If you meet all four eligibility criteria, your CDCP coverage coordinates with your existing federal or provincial plan to avoid duplication and fill any gaps.

In Ontario, the CDCP coordinates with the following programs, paying first with the provincial plan covering any remaining balance:

  • Healthy Smiles Ontario
  • Ontario Disability Support Program (ODSP)
  • Ontario Works

Note that the Ontario Seniors Dental Care Program is an exception, and you will only qualify one of two at any given time.

How does CDCP co-payment work?

Your co-payment is the portion of the treatment cost you pay out of pocket, and is calculated using your adjusted family net income. Your co-payment level is included in your Sun Life welcome package.

How long will my CDCP coverage last?

CDCP coverage runs on an annual benefit period and does not renew automatically. Members must complete their renewal each year to maintain active coverage. The current benefit year runs to June 30, 2026. If you haven’t renewed yet, you must by June 1, 2026.
